CJI takes a broad view of public safety and the role we play in bringing about positive change. We promote system change for better outcomes, which includes work in the following areas:
- Policy Development and Analysis
CJI's work in policy development, education, and analysis in various states across the country has led to significant changes in statutes and regulations regarding the use of evidence-based principles in criminal and juvenile justice systems. Our efforts have yielded a broader understanding of the vital components of legislation affecting corrections populations and correctional outcomes, along with changes to state laws regarding utilization of EBP in community corrections agencies. CJI has advised numerous state leaders from all three branches of government regarding the fiscal implications of growing corrections budgets on other state services and the necessity to use research to reduce the cost of corrections while improving outcomes and therefore public safety.
- Implementation Assistance
We are able to quickly and thoroughly assess an agency of system's current policies, practices, and culture; facilitate the development of a tailored implementation strategy; support the implementation process, and develop a system for evaluation and quality assurance.
- Trainings
Training is an essential component of evidence-based system reform, both for relaying content on new business practices and supporting organizational change. CJI offers training on several topics, and is able to tailor training content to the specific needs of the organization. We also offer coaching and training-of-trainers to increase the capacity of client organizations to deliver training themselves.
- Assessments
In order to sustain organizational change, employees must possess necessary knowledge and skills, and the organizational climate must be healthy and conducive to growth and change. To determine the strengths and developmental needs of organizations engaged in a change process, CJI is able to offer a suite of organizational assessment tools. Our team can customize a package of tools based on your needs, administer the surveys, provide the results, and work with you to translate the results into an organizational development plan.
- Research and Evaluation
CJI is reshaping the way that community corrections implement EBP by our ability to conduct vigorous research and utilize evaluation to assist organizations in building their EBP capacity. Our research and program evaluation capacity encompasses study design and implementation and a variety of qualitative and quantitative methods. Expertise includes survey, focus group, and case study methodologies. CJI has been successful serving as a collaborative research partner and consultant to local criminal justice and community agencies to help prevent and reduce crime. Applying both our research skills and broad practical experience, we also provide technical assistance in corrections, crime and violence prevention, community partnership-building, and other public safety arenas. Throughout our work, we have partnered with a wide variety of organizations. Examples of recent collaborative projects can be found on our Project Pages.
